Meet Our Dermatologist

Mara Therese Padilla Evangelista-Huber MD, FPDS. MCLINRES

After graduating from the University of Santo Tomas Faculty of Medicine and Surgery Cum Laude, Dr. Mara took her dermatology residency at the Jose R. Reyes Medical Center where she became chief resident and graduated as the Most Outstanding Dermatology Resident and Most Outstanding Overall Resident. She was the topnotcher of the Philippine Dermatological Society’s board examination last 2014. After taking her fellowship in dermatopathology, the study of skin disease at a microscopic and molecular level, at the University of California San Francisco, she passed the International Certification for Dermatopathology in Germany. She has a Masters Degree in Clinical Trials from the University of London where she graduated with honors at the top of her class.

Dr. Mara is a front-runner in the clinical and academic arena, but her strongest calling has always been clinical research — and she has been exemplary in this regard. Her multi-awarded research on the use of virgin coconut oil for atopic dermatitis won first place in the Advanced Residency Training and Education Research Contest in Orlando, Florida. Her clinical trial investigating the use of simvastatin for venous ulcers likewise received local and international recognition. This paper won the Everett Fox Award for Outstanding Clinical Research, a research contest for dermatology residents and fellows held yearly by the American Academy of Dermatology. She is the first Asian and Filipino to win this award in its 45 years of existence, besting 89 entries worldwide. She presented against researchers from Harvard College, University of California San Francisco and Stanford University, emerging as the first-place recipient.

Dr. Mara formalized her research training by obtaining a Masters Degree in Clinical Trials from the University of London. She completed her degree in two years at the top of her class.

What makes Dr. Mara stand out as a dermatologist isn’t only her passion for research, but also her desire to educate.  She has delivered more than 200 research lectures, written several articles on the conduct of research, served as a judge in research contests, mentored many colleagues not only in the field of dermatology but those of other specialties as well. She is regularly ranked as one of the best for evidence-based medicine and science-based dermatology.

Dr. Mara is also passionate about patient education. She enjoys giving lectures about the skin to laymen, making difficult concepts understandable through interactive, light and knowledge-filled sessions.

In addition to all these great skills and attributes mentioned above, our patients say the greatest thing about Dr. Mara is her caring attitude and warm personality. She always treats her patients like family. We are proud to have this multi-awarded, board-certified dermatologist as our #skinexpert and #skinauthority!
